An announcement about the restaurant food in the campus

By illustrating the restaurant will only sale cold food for students, the lecturer completely challenges the reading passage.
To being with, the reading passage asserts that the cold food is more nutritious than hot food. However, the lecturer maintains that the cold food not fit for everyone to eat. Besides, that is not absolutely correct about the cold food has more nutritious. Therefore, she directly challenges the reading passage.
Moreover, the reading passage claims that students can save money by buy the cold food. Nevertheless, the lecturer points out that the restaurant deprives student’s authority to choose other kinds of foods. Hence, this is the second part the lecturer denies.
Consequently, the contents displayed in the reading passage are entirely rejected by lecturer.

Is the traditional skill still important for us?

When a country develops its technology, the traditional skills and ways of life die out. It is pointless to try and keep them alive. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

I disagree with this opinion that traditional skills and ways of life should die out. The traditional skills are the basic ways for the technology. If without traditional skills, there will be no progress in technology. That is to say, the ancient life becomes a modern life that we live today. I think the traditional skills have its value to survive. My reasons are as follows.

First of all, traditional skills are the foundation for a country’s technology. A traditional skill also symbolizes a nation’s spirit and it means a country’s effort in the past. We know early people used the traditional skills to earn more money by themselves. They use the raw materials that they can find or already knew to make a living. For example, the weaving skill that is female’s professional skills in the past. They use their instinct to produce products such as bamboo that become a hand-made basket.

Secondly, the traditional skills play an important role for the later technology. Passing the traditional skills time, people learn from its disadvantages and then refine to technology nowadays. Cite the above example, the above-mentioned weaving skills evolves into machines instead of human labor, because we understand that the machine can produce more quantity and save more time than if mad by hand. The traditional skills give ideas of weaving to technology. As a result, the traditional skills are technology’s forerunner and the technology is an innovation.

Base on the two reasons, I believe that they can’t live without each other and they are important for a country. Countries need the traditional skills and technology, so we should keep them alive. For this reason, I assert the traditional skills should be reserved.

GREEN ICEBERGS

Icebergs are massive blocks of ice, irregular in shape; they float with only about 12 percent of their mass above the sea surface. They are formed by glaciers—large rivers of ice that begin inland in the snows of Greenland, Antarctica, and Alaska—and move slowly toward the sea. The forward movement, the melting at the base of the glacier where it meets the ocean, and waves and tidal action cause blocks of ice to break off and float out to sea.

Icebergs are ordinarily blue to white, although they sometimes appear dark or opaque because they carry gravel and bits of rock. They may change color with changing light conditions and cloud cover, glowing pink or gold in the morning or evening light, but this color change is generally related to the low angle of the Sun above the horizon. However, travelers to Antarctica have repeatedly reported seeing green icebergs in the Weddell Sea and, more commonly, close to the Amery Ice Shelf in East Antarctica.

One explanation for green icebergs attributes their color to an optical illusion when blue ice is illuminated by a near-horizon red Sun, but green icebergs stand out among white and blue icebergs under a great variety of light conditions. Another suggestion is that the color might be related to ice with high levels of metallic compounds, including copper and iron. Recent expeditions have taken ice samples from green icebergs and ice cores—vertical, cylindrical ice samples reaching down to great depths—from the glacial ice shelves along the Antarctic continent. Analyses of these cores and samples provide a different solution to the problem.

The ice shelf cores, with a total length of 215 meters (705 feet), were long enough to penetrate through glacial ice—which is formed from the compaction of snow and contains air bubbles—and to continue into the clear, bubble-free ice formed from seawater that freezes onto the bottom of the glacial ice. The properties of this clear sea ice were very similar to the ice from the green iceberg. The scientists concluded that green icebergs form when a two-layer block of shelf ice breaks away and capsizes (turns upside down), exposing the bubble-free shelf ice that was formed from seawater.

A green iceberg that stranded just west of the Amery Ice Shelf showed two distinct layers: bubbly blue-white ice and bubble-free green ice separated by a one-meter- long ice layer containing sediments. The green ice portion was textured by seawater erosion. Where cracks were present, the color was light green because of light scattering; where no cracks were present, the color was dark green. No air bubbles were present in the green ice, suggesting that the ice was not formed from the compression of snow but instead from the freezing of seawater. Large concentrations of single-celled organisms with green pigments (coloring substances) occur along the edges of the ice shelves in this region, and the seawater is rich in their decomposing organic material. The green iceberg did not contain large amounts of particles from these organisms, but the ice had accumulated dissolved organic matter from the seawater. It appears that unlike salt, dissolved organic substances are not excluded from the ice in the freezing process. Analysis shows that the dissolved organic material absorbs enough blue wavelengths from solar light to make the ice appear green.

7. Why does the author mention that “The green ice portion was textured by seawater erosion

○To explain why cracks in the iceberg appeared light green instead of dark green ”?
○To suggest that green ice is more easily eroded by seawater than white ice is
○To support the idea that the green ice had been the bottom layer before capsizing
○To explain how the air bubbles had been removed from the green ice

Chemical evidence shows that platelets (minute flat portions) of ice form in the water and then accrete and stick to the bottom of the ice shelf to form a slush (partially melted snow). The slush is compacted by an unknown mechanism, and solid, bubblefree ice is formed from water high in soluble organic substances. When an iceberg separates from the ice shelf and capsizes, the green ice is exposed.

The Amery Ice Shelf appears to be uniquely suited to the production of green icebergs. Once detached from the ice shelf, these bergs drift in the currents and wind systems surrounding Antarctica and can be found scattered among Antarctica’s less colorful icebergs.

Other advantages of work

People work because they need money to live. What are some other reasons that people work? Discuss one or more of these reasons. Use specific examples and details to support your answer.

There is very common in this situation about that work can earn a living. I think earning money by work is basically, but it also has other advantages by this way. I believe that work must have the further meaning for people. I have developed my own point of view as well. The reasons and details will shed light on in the following paragraphs to support my point of view.

First of all, people can make more friends through their work. This is to say, work can develop his or her interpersonal relationship. To make the above statement more profound and comprehensive, I would like to cite a particular example. If your job is a sale, you have to contact suppliers and clients and through those people further to know people who work in other field. Those people will be become your properties, because they may possible give you a great help in one day. Interpersonal relationship is indispensible for everyone, so work is the best bridge.

Second, people can learn many things from work what he or she never knows before. In other words, they will possess experiences by the way. To further substantiate the view, let us focus on another momentous example. People can learn new things with their practice of work. Therefore, they learn professional skills differ from general affairs. The process and those skills will become their precious experiences in the life. To have cumulative experiences will enhance their transaction ability when they encounter some troubles. As a result, experiences are the important part of work for people.

For the above reasons, they also conclude other advantages in addition to make money. My personal experience and actual observation of life have led me to conclude that my opinion is built in a solid foundation.

Compare with the two life style

Some people are always in a hurry to go places and get things done. Other people prefer to take their time and live life at a slower pace. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Views differ greatly when the issue comes to decision whether people should make their life with hurry pace or live in a slow pace, because it can be approached several angles due to its complexity. On the one hand, some people tend to agree that people should make their life with hurry pace. On the other hand, some people seem to believe that live in a slow pace is better. I have developed my own point of view as well. I favor the latter situation that make a slow life style is better than another. The reasons and details will be shed light on in the following paragraphs to support my viewpoint.

To being with, the reason why I have such a viewpoint is that taking the time and live life at a slower pace is healthier than the hurry life style. This is to say, a slower life will keep you from make mistakes. To make the above statement more profound and comprehensive, I would like to cite a particular example. No matter what children or adults, easily make mistakes especially when they have a date after their work. They may do things completely in time, but they won’t have time to double check their file or homework. As a result, they will get many errors with their works with the hurry pace. Under this kind of circumstance we can’t deny that a live with lower pace is better.

Next to go will be, a slower life style makes people obtain more new things. In other words, people have more time to feel the surrounding and further think about them. To further substantiate the view, let us focus on another momentous example. If people walk fast and enjoy the hurry pace with their life, they won’t stop their step to watch their city. Everyday people are changing their mind, thinking and even their look. Therefore, our city is also changing everyday, even every hour. So, people take a slow pace will discover more interesting things in the life than others. To respond to this king of situation, I take it for granted that having a life with slower style can get more than the hurry life.

In a nutshell, judging from what have been discussed above, there is no denying the basis of experience etched into my mind plays an essential role to support my viewpoint. Of course I do not mean to suggest that my own point of view is unassailable. Nevertheless, my personal experience and actual observation of life have led me to conclude that my opinion is built in a solid foundation.

Some people like to travel with a companion. Other people prefer to travel alone. Which do you prefer?

Views differ greatly when the issue comes to decision whether traveling with companion is better than traveling alone or not, because it can be approached to several angles due to its complexity. On the one hand, some people tend to agree that they like to travel with companion. On the other hand, others seem to believe that they prefer to travel alone. I have developed my own point of view. I favor the former position that I prefer to travel with companion. The reasons and details will be shed light on in the following paragraphs to support my viewpoint.

To being with, the reason why I have such a viewpoint is that traveling with companion is more interesting. This is to say, companion can bring more enjoyment to them than some people travel alone. To make the above statement more profound and comprehensive, I would like to cite a particular example. As long as the companion is with me, I can easily feel happier than I go anywhere else by myself. We can go to the amusement park when especially I don't want to ride the roller coaster alone. We can feel the sense of excitment from the facility. After the travel, we will have the common memory for us to discussion. Under this kind of circumstance we can't deny that travel with companion is funnier than travel alone.

Next to go will be, traveling with companion can make you safer and more comfortable. In other words, companion can help you to do some things than when you are by yourself. To further substantiate the view, let us focus on another example. If you travel the place by driving a car, the companion can share the driving time. Therefore, it can keep you from feeling tired by driving alone and it also can avoid the car accident from you can't concentrate by driving for a long time. In the way, you can keep your mind on seeing the scenes out of the window, when your partner is driving. To respond to this kind of situation, I take it for granted that travel with companion is more safe and comfortable than when you travel alone.

In a nutshell, judging from what have been discussed above, there is no denying that the basis of experiences etched into my mind plays an essential role to support my opinion. Of course, I do not mean to suggest that my own point of view is unassailable. Nevertheless, my personal experience and actual observation of life have led me to conclude that my opinion is built in a solid foundation.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Classmates are a more important influence than parents on a child's success in school. Use spec

Views differ greatly when the issue comes to decision whether classmates are more influential to a child's success in school than parents are more influential to them, because it can be approached from several angles due to its complexity. On the one hand, some people tend to agree that classmates are more influential to a child's success in school. On the other hand, others seem to believe that parents play an important role to a child. I have developed my own point of view as well. I favor the later position that parents have greater power to influence a child’s success in school work. The reasons and derails will be shed light on in the following paragraphs to support my viewpoint.

To being with, the reason why I have such a viewpoint is that parents play an important role than classmates to them. This is to say, when a child was born, parents was the first people they live with. To make the above statement more profound and comprehensive, I would like to cite a particular example. A child lives with and watches their parents everyday. Naturally, the child imitates the behaviors from their parents. Therefore, parents play an important role to influence child's behavior, mind and thinking. Family is always the crux that to determine whether a child will success or nor in school. Under this kind of circumstance we can't deny that parents play an important role to a child than their classmates.

Next to go will be, parents are more visionary than classmates. In other words, they much know that how homework is important for a child than classmates. To further substantiate the view, let us focus on another momentous example. Parents can give a child some advice about study and they can share some experience of study in the pass. However, classmates may don’t think study is important. They will even reinforce unaccepted behaviors or thoughts. In this case, it will be hard for them to reach success with a wrong way. To respond to this kind of situation, I take it for granted that parents are more visionary to children than classmates can do.
